The Tennessee Titans have selected edge rusher Harold Landry out of Boston College in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, 41st overall.
In order to select Landry, the Titans traded the No. 57 and No. 89 selections to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for the No. 41 pick.
Landry has an outstanding first step and should be able to give NFL offensive tackles nightmares due to his speed and array of pass-rushing moves.
With excellent production at the collegiate level, the Titans may have stumbled upon a future Pro Bowl defensive end, capable of taking the team's once anonymous defensive line to the next level.
Harold Landry Bio
Position: DE/OLB
School: Boston College
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-2
Weight: 252 lbs
Strengths
- Explosive burst off the snap and around the edge. One of the quickest first steps in the entire draft class.
- Fluid athlete in closed quarters and in space.
- Classic dip-and-rip pass-rusher. Has the flexibility/bend to get under offensive tackles and the hand usage to beat them around the edge.
- Elite production during sophomore and junior years. Led college football with 16.5 sacks in 2016.
- Possesses great timed speed and plays just as fast. Great closing speed on ball-carriers against the run.
Weaknesses
- Doesn't have ideal height or weight that NFL teams covet for edge defenders.
- While productive in 2015 and 2016, his play dipped in 2017, perhaps due to a lingering ankle injury.
- Must develop secondary pass-rush moves to beat NFL-caliber tackles.
- Below-average upper-body and core strength lead to linemen driving him forward in running game.
