Lou Williams: DeRozan is 'the coolest person in the world'
Lou Williams and DeMar DeRozan formed a truly special bond in their lone season as teammates.
Williams is in his 13th NBA season and has played on six teams over the last seven years. Of all his teammates, his favorite is DeRozan, whom he joined on the Toronto Raptors in 2014-15.
"He's the coolest person in the world - the most down-to-earth and supportive teammate I've had in my career," Williams said of DeRozan, according to GQ's Alex Wong.
"I was at a bit of a crossroads in my career when I came to Toronto. DeMar and Kyle (Lowry) were the people that really lifted me up. I respect them for that."
Toronto won 49 games that season to win the Atlantic Division and secure home-court advantage in the playoffs. Williams averaged 15.5 points off the bench - his career high at the time - and was named the Sixth Man of the Year.
The day Williams won the award, DeRozan called him "the coolest dude in the world." Williams, then an impending free agent, expressed he'd never felt more comfortable with a club and wanted to stay with the Raptors, but the feeling wasn't mutual as Toronto didn't offer him a new deal.
He went on to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, but remained close with the friends he made north of the border:
Now a member of the Clippers, Williams is averaging a career-high 22.7 points on a true shooting percentage of 57.6 as the focal point of LA's offense.
