The Oakland Raiders have selected cornerback Nick Nelson out of Wisconsin in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, 110th overall.
Nelson was a projected Day 2 pick, but tore his meniscus during a team visit with the Detroit Lions. He had a solid junior season for the Badgers, however, defending 21 passes.
Nelson adds depth behind Rashaan Melvin, Gareon Conley, Shareece Wright, and Dexter McDonald in Oakland's secondary.

What the analysts are saying
- "It is extremely rare for a defender to log over 40 passes defensed during his career and not land a single interception, so teams will have to decide how they categorize Nelson's ball skills - especially in light of his high interference numbers." - Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
- "Nelson will be downgraded due to his lack of elite speed, height and length for the position, but his confidence, field intelligence, and ability to routinely win at the catch point translate well to the NFL." - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
- "Nelson had successful surgery to fix his torn meniscus today, and he received good news in the process. Dr. James Andrews did not need to fully repair the meniscus - he trimmed it and cleaned it out. That means recovery is six weeks, not 3-4 months. Ready for camp." - Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
