Bills' Incognito says he's retiring: 'I'm done. That's it.'
Richie Incognito made a surprising announcement to a number of reporters on Tuesday.
The Buffalo Bills guard told Peter King of The MMQB he's "strongly considering" retirement, then revealed even more to Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News.
"I'm done. That's it. It's been a long career," Incognito said, according to Carucci. "Went to the doctor. My liver and kidneys are shutting down. The stress is killing me. It's just about doing what's right. I just want to be in the Hall of Fame."
The 12-year veteran fired his agent via Twitter on Thursday after agreeing to a pay cut from $6.32 million to $3.65 million just weeks ago. He remains in talks with the Bills about his contract, however, and has given himself until Sunday to change his mind, according to King.
The 2018 season would be the final year of his three-year deal with the team.
Incognito has been anything but during his tenure in the NFL. Originally a third-round pick by the then-St. Louis Rams in 2005, he was waived by the team in 2009, claimed by the Miami Dolphins, and suspended indefinitely in 2013 for his role in a bullying scandal involving teammate Jonathan Martin.
After a year away from football, he signed with the Bills in 2015 and has made three consecutive Pro Bowls.
The loss of Incognito would be a big blow to a team that ended a 17-year playoff drought in 2017.
