Rams GM: Donald 'on the verge' of becoming NFL's richest defender
While discussing the free-agent signing of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh on "The MMQB Podcast," Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead revealed Aaron Donald's next contract will likely be the richest for a defensive player in NFL history.
"The nice thing about Ndamukong, at age 31 and somebody who's been the highest-paid defensive player in football, winning was very important in this phase of his career," Snead said, according to NFL.com's Chris Wessling. "He's well aware that when you can partner, be beside someone who is on the verge of being the highest-paid defensive player in football, then that's a really good thing."
The Rams have maintained throughout the offseason that they expect to hammer out a new deal with Donald, who has one year left on his rookie contract.
The 26-year-old was named to the Pro Bowl after each of his first four NFL campaigns, and was the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year.
The tandem of Donald and Suh at defensive tackle next season could be one of the most prolific the league has ever seen.
