Cardinals add dynamic playmaker Christian Kirk
Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports
The Arizona Cardinals selected wide receiver Christian Kirk out of Texas A&M in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, 47th overall.
Kirk is expected to make an immediate impact in the Cardinals' passing game alongside Larry Fitzgerald and J.J. Nelson.
Arizona selected quarterback Josh Rosen 10th overall and Kirk should be expected to form a partnership with him as the present and future of the team's offensive scheme.
A dynamic playmaker, Kirk also has added value as a punt and kick returner.
Christian Kirk Bio
Position: WR
School: Texas A&M
College Experience: Redshirt Junior
Height: 5-10
Weight: 200 lbs
Strengths
- All-around strength. Muscular upper body, powerful legs, and natural hands catcher.
- Smart runner after the catch. Reads defenders and downfield blocks well. Runs with purpose and belief he can get to end zone.
- Consistent. Played all 13 games last three seasons. Recorded at least 915 yards, 70 catches, and seven touchdowns all three years.
- Adds value as a punt and kick returner. Speed is much improved when he has room to build it up.
Weaknesses
- Explosiveness will be an issue creating separation against NFL cornerbacks. Often made catches in man coverage with defender draped on back.
- Doesn't have the length to consistently make contested catches. Needs to make space with strength at line of scrimmage and accurate passes.
- Regularly had his routes set up by picks and formations at Texas A&M.
