The New England Patriots have selected guard/offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn out of Georgia with the 23rd overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Wynn is a versatile piece who can play multiple positions for the Patriots, a welcome development for a team that needs to rebuild their offensive line.
After Nate Solder left during free agency, a void was created at left tackle that Wynn could fill during his first year.
Although he's undersized, Wynn does a great job of driving defenders backward, and his footwork is certainly an asset.
Isaiah Wynn Bio
Position: G
School: Georgia
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-3
Weight: 313 lbs
Strengths
- Great jump off the snap. Often the first blocker to spring off the line when run-blocking. Can get quality hand position quickly and smother his defender before play gets going.
- Mauler. Doesn't need perfect technique or hand placement to move his defender through a pile. Willing to take his lumps to drive feet through.
- Versatile. Played three years as a guard (with one game at tight end) before switching to left tackle as a senior per his team's request. Has ability to play center in NFL.
- Reads stunts, twists, and blitzes fairly easily. Controls footwork and technique to make adjustments on the fly.
Weaknesses
- Undersized. Can stand to add muscle to lower body.
- Rarely pops back defenders on initial contact. Could face problems going up against stronger NFL linemen on a regular basis.
Wynn didn't participate in the NFL Scouting Combine or Georgia's pro day due to shoulder surgery.
