Jerry Jones: Cowboys don't expect to find 'pure' replacement for Bryant

Just over a week after the Dallas Cowboys released Dez Bryant, team owner Jerry Jones made it very clear that the wide receiver's time with the team is over, regardless of the contract he might be willing to accept at a reduced price.

Jones told the media on Tuesday that the Cowboys "need to move on knowing that we don't have Dez," and that he doesn't expect anyone to step in and take over the veteran's former role next season.

"I think we recognize that we've got a hole to fill with Dez," Jones said, according to ESPN. "We, actually, in general know right now that and have known that we probably won't have what we would call a pure X receiver to take the place of Dez."

Jones says the Cowboys will try to add a receiver in this week's draft who can come in and help the corps, which currently includes Allen Hurns, Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams, and Ryan Switzer.

Some media and players had complaints about how late into the offseason the Cowboys released Bryant, as most teams have spent their free-agent budget by April, but Jones isn't giving it a second thought.

"I have no thoughts about the timing of when we decided to move on," Jones said. "For everyone concerned, that was as good a time as any from the end of the season."

The Baltimore Ravens have reportedly been the only team so far to have interest in Bryant, but they fell out of the running after making Willie Snead the third new receiver to sign with the team this offseason.
