King of clutch: Ranking LeBron's career playoff buzzer-beaters
Bow down to the King.
For the fourth time in his career, the almighty LeBron James bailed out his team with a buzzer-beating game-winner in the playoffs. On this occasion, he shattered the Indiana Pacers' hearts with a 3-pointer on Wednesday night, giving his Cleveland Cavaliers a 3-2 series lead in the first round.
There are maybe a handful of players in NBA history who thrive under pressure to the degree that LeBron does, and with the bright lights of the postseason shining down, the four-time Most Valuable Player was once again clutch when it mattered most.
Here's a look at all four of James' career playoff buzzer-beaters dating back to 2009, and how they stack up against each other.
4) Game 1 vs. Pacers (2013 EC Finals)
This was undoubtedly the least sexy of the four daggers, as all LeBron did was turn on Paul George, drive down the left side of the lane, and convert a left-handed layup as time expired.
He faced absolutely zero resistance at the rim, as Sam Young didn't contest the shot whatsoever.
George had just connected on all three of his free-throw attempts to give Indiana a narrow lead in overtime, but having James blow by him like that basically undid all of the good. This was also the first game of the series, so it's not as though the Miami Heat were in do-or-die mode, even on their home floor.
3) Game 5 vs. Pacers (2018 EC first round)
He's a team unto himself.
After denying All-Star Victor Oladipo with a game-saving rejection off the glass (which Oladipo argued was a goaltend), James received the inbound pass from teammate Jeff Green, took two dribbles to his left, and proceeded to bury a 3-pointer from the top of the arc right in Thaddeus Young's eyes.
This finish was a get-out-of-jail-free card for Cleveland, which had held - and blown - a six-point lead with just over three minutes remaining. James' bucket also gave him 44 points for the night, while the rest of the Cavaliers combined for just 54.
2) Game 4 vs. Bulls (2015 EC semifinals)
"To be honest, the play that was drawn up, I scratched it. I just told coach, 'Just give me the ball. We either going to go into overtime or I'ma win it for us.' It was that simple." - LeBron James
The play that former Cavaliers coach David Blatt had in mind was for his star to take the ball out of bounds - a plan that James axed unless there was some way he could shoot the ball over the backboard.
What transpired instead was LeBron heading out to the left corner, fading into the Chicago Bulls' bench, and swishing a long-range jumper after breaking free from Jimmy Butler to lock the series at 2-2.
1) Game 2 vs. Magic (2009 EC Finals)
Lest we forget that the Orlando Magic actually went on to take the Eastern Conference finals in six games, since the image of James leaping into the arms of Anderson Varejao with Sasha Pavlovic draped all over him is what most of the basketball world chooses to remember.
Despite the eventual series loss, dropping the first two games at Quicken Loans Arena would have been devastating for Cleveland, and would have essentially wrapped up the matchup for Orlando then and there. In Game 2, the Magic had clawed their way back from being down 23 points to own a 95-93 lead with just a single second remaining.
That's all the time James needed, with the outstretched arms of Hedo Turkoglu doing little to save Orlando on this all-important possession.
Also, if you got a sense of deja vu watching James on Wednesday against Indiana, you weren't alone:
