Alderson not surprised by report that Harvey ditched team to party in L.A.
A Page Six report that Matt Harvey left the New York Mets to go party in Los Angeles while the team was in San Diego isn't exactly a shock to general manager Sandy Alderson.
Asked whether the report upset him, Alderson told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com: "Usually I get upset if a report is unexpected. So I guess the short answer is no."
The Mets played a weekend series against the Padres in San Diego, and Harvey reportedly made the two-hour trip to Los Angeles on Thursday evening to attend the star-studded opening of a new club. While one guest said Harvey was "stumbling around," another guest attested that he was sober - and that nobody knew who he was.
Harvey wound up coming out of the bullpen Friday and gave up one run on one hit and one walk, throwing 20 pitches to retire three hitters in the ninth.
This comes almost exactly one year after Harvey didn't show up to Citi Field on a game day and earned a three-game suspension. He'd reportedly stayed out late to party on Cinco de Mayo the night before.
