Report: Manchester United to target Ajax teen Justin Kluivert this summer
After hinting at a possible overhaul at Manchester United this summer, it appears Jose Mourinho will attempt to replenish his team with the addition of Ajax teenager Justin Kluivert this summer.
Contract negotiations between Kluivert - the son of former Barcelona and Netherlands star Patrick Kluivert - and Ajax have reportedly come to a standstill, with reports suggesting the 19-year-old is demanding a drastic raise that would see his annual earnings climb to €1.5 million (£1.3 million).
Ajax's refusal to make an exception for Kluivert - to go against a club policy of not paying its players more than €1 million - could pave the way for Mourinho and United to make a move for the winger.
It's understood that Mourinho has identified Kluivert as a target this summer, according to the Guardian's Jamie Jackson and Joacob Steinberg, who also suggest the Dutch international prefers a move to Old Trafford.
Kluivert, who made his senior international debut with the Dutch national team in March, has scored 10 goals this season - including two in his last two Eredivisie matches - and is hopeful of being rewarded for his breakout campaign with an improved contract compared to his current deal, which expires next summer.
Mourinho and Kluivert shared a moment after United beat Ajax in the Europa League final, and Dutch outlets speculated that the Portuguese manager said, "One more season ... Then you come to Manchester. And you become my striker."
Kluivert's potential arrival at United could spell the end for winger Anthony Martial, who was at the centre of criticism last Friday when Mourinho called out his underachieving fringe players following a loss to Brighton & Hove Albion.
