Phillies draft Wichita State star Alec Bohm with 3rd overall pick
With the 3rd pick in the 2018 MLB amateur draft, the Philadelphia Phillies selected Alec Bohm, a third baseman out of Wichita State.
"Alec Bohm is a tremendous offensive player," Phillies amateur scouting director Johnny Almaraz told Matt Breen of the Philly Inquirer. "He is a middle-of-the-order bat, a big power-hitting third baseman who could be a .300 hitter and drive in 100-plus runs. We are thrilled to have selected him."
Initially going undrafted out of high school, the junior lacks much defensive acumen or running ability, but his bat offers enough upside if he's forced to transition to first base at the major-league level.
