With the 40th pick in the 2018 MLB amateur draft, the Kansas City Royals selected Kris Bubic, a junior right-hander from Stanford University.

Bubic, a native of San Jose, has been a staple of the Cardinal's rotation during each of the last two seasons. He's also starred against the wood bats, tallying 41 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings while pitching in the prestigious Cape Cod League during the summer of 2017.

MLB.com money quote: "He has one of the best changeups in the draft class, a true-out pitch he sells well by keeping his arm speed and slot the same as his fastball. He can go to it multiple times in a row and still miss bats with it or get weak fly-ball contact. His curve, a pitch he rarely threw as a sophomore, has improved to the point of it approaching average, but he'll get under it at times."
