Huddersfield makes Kongolo deal permanent for club-record fee
Huddersfield Town was so satisfied with Terence Kongolo's recent loan spell that it paid a record fee just to keep the enterprising full-back on a permanent basis.
Kongolo officially arrived from AS Monaco on Friday. The club noted the fee was a record, but wouldn't disclose the figure. However, it's believed to be higher than the £11.4 million that was spent on striker Steve Mounie last summer, reports Blake Welton of the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
The 24-year-old Kongolo initially joined Huddersfield in January and helped the club stave off relegation in its first-ever Premier League campaign. He made 17 appearances in all competitions, while earning call-ups to the Netherlands' national team.
Although a left-back by trade, Kongolo has made himself available as a centre-back and shown a penchant to drive forward with the ball.
Manager David Wagner called it a "statement signing," adding that the player's "performances in our shirt exceeded our expectations."
