Report: Leonard, Popovich met Tuesday
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich met with disgruntled star Kawhi Leonard on Tuesday in San Diego, according to Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.
Leonard has been in communication with the Spurs' front office as well as Popovich, Charania notes.
According to ESPN's Chris Haynes, Leonard was not alone at said meeting.
The meeting comes shortly after Leonard reportedly told the Spurs he doesn't want to play in San Antonio any longer and is interested in playing in his hometown of Los Angeles, preferably for the Lakers, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne. The two-time All-Star reportedly plans to notify interested teams that his intentions are to sign in L.A. when he becomes a free agent in 2019.
Meanwhile, Wojnarnowski is also reporting Leonard had purposely distanced himself from the Spurs and Popovich, which initially made it difficult for the franchise to reach him. The 2014 Finals MVP remains upset with Spurs guard Tony Parker for his comments about the severity of Leonard's quad injury.
