Report: Jordan may exercise $24M player option in hopes of trade; Mavs interested
DeAndre Jordan is considering opting into his $24.1-million player option for 2018-19 in hopes of facilitating a trade, with the Dallas Mavericks among his potential suitors, reports Marc Stein of The New York Times, citing league sources.
He has until Friday to make his decision on his player option. Dallas has enough cap room to absorb Jordan without sending back equivalent salary.
Jordan famously reneged on his commitment to the Mavericks in 2015, when a host of players and coaches from the Los Angeles Clippers trapped Jordan in his house in Houston until he changed his mind. The ordeal embarrassed the Mavericks franchise, and Jordan was booed during his first appearance in Dallas following his decision.
However, every recruiter save head coach Doc Rivers has since moved on from the Clippers, and the Mavericks are reportedly willing to mend fences. Dallas has repeatedly chased a rim-running center in free agency for nearly a decade, and Jordan fits the bill perfectly.
He's has spent his entire 11-year career with the Clippers and blossomed into a fringe All-Star and an All-NBA center. He averaged 12 points, 15.2 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks last season while shooting 64.5 percent from the field.
