Report: LeBron spoke with Cavs GM when free agency opened

LeBron James gave Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman the first shot at a conversation as soon as free agency opened Sunday at midnight, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reports.

The Cavaliers have been in constant contact with LeBron's camp since the end of the season, but it's uncertain if he will give them a shot at an in-person sit-down after opting out of his contract, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

Much has been made about the prospect of James leaving his hometown this summer, possibly for Los Angeles, where he was seen Saturday. However, there aren't many teams with cap space to sign him, which gives Cleveland a real shot at bringing him back - especially if the Lakers can't promise to surround him with the right pieces.

With Paul George reportedly choosing to return to Oklahoma City over fulfilling his lifelong dream of playing in his hometown of Los Angeles, it eliminates one of the few superstars that James could have paired up with out West.

Everything could now depend on how the San Antonio Spurs decide to handle the Kawhi Leonard situation and if the Lakers can find a home run deal to sign the two-time Defensive Player of the Year to be James' sidekick.
