The Portland Trail Blazers will not tender a qualifying offer to backup point guard Shabazz Napier, making him an unrestricted free agent, sources told Yahoo's Shams Charania.
The 26-year-old had something of a breakout season for the Blazers, posting career highs in points (8.7), rebounds (2.3), steals (1.1), and minutes (20.7) per game, with a .420/.376/.841 shooting line that also represented career bests from the field, 3-point range, and the free-throw line.
Napier's qualifying offer was worth a reasonable $3.4 million, but the Blazers are already well over the cap and could be butting up against the luxury tax if and when they re-sign restricted free agent Jusuf Nurkic.
