Report: 3-team deal to send Biyombo to Hornets, Mozgov to Magic
The Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, and Orlando Magic have agreed to a three-team trade that will see center Timofey Mozgov and guard Jerian Grant sent to Orlando, center Bismack Biyombo sent to Charlotte, and guard Julyan Stone sent to Chicago, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Mozgov has two years and $32.7 million remaining on his current contract. The towering Russian was recently traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Hornets in the Dwight Howard trade. In 31 appearances with the Nets last season, the 31-year-old Mozgov averaged 4.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per game.
Mozgov will reportedly be joined on the Magic by the 25-year-old Grant, who averaged career highs with 8.4 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game last season with the Bulls. Grant was selected No. 19 overall in the 2015 draft out of Notre Dame by the New York Knicks, for which he played one season.
Biyombo is due $17 million for 2018-19 and holds a player option for another $17 million for 2019-20. The Congolese rim protector has struggled to live up to the massive four-year, $68-million deal he signed with the Magic two summers ago, putting up just 5.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 20.2 minutes per game, largely off the bench.
Stone, 29, played sparingly for the Hornets last season after three years out of the NBA. He and his $1.6-million non-guaranteed contract head to Chicago, where he can be released before August 1 to increase the Bulls' cap space.
