Report: Crystal Palace to sign free-agent Germany midfielder Max Meyer
Crystal Palace appear set to complete their first outfield signing of the summer transfer window this week.
The Eagles will wrap up a deal for Germany midfielder Max Meyer after the former Schalke star underwent a medical at the London club on Tuesday, according to the Guardian's Jacob Steinberg.
Die Konigsblauen sporting executive Christian Heidel confirmed Meyer's impending move to the U.K.
"I am happy for Max. He is a top footballer and now plays in the Premier League, so he has to prevail," Heidel said, according to the Evening Standard's Giuseppe Muro.
Steinberg reports Meyer walked away from Schalke after falling out with club staff, including Heidel, as the two parties failed to agree on a new contract. The 22-year-old amassed 22 goals and 24 assists in nearly 200 games for the Ruhr side, but last played for his boyhood club in early April.
Meyer has previously been linked with a top tier of English clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool, but looks set to be snapped up by Roy Hodgson's Palace. The midfielder, who can play both in a central attacking role and deeper, won the last of his four Germany caps in 2016.
He would become Palace's second signing of the summer window after Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.
