Everton left it late, but they eventually got a center-back to partner with Michael Keane.
The club signed towering Colombian defender Yerry Mina from Barcelona just minutes before the closure of the Premier League transfer window on Thursday.
The Toffees will pay an initial €30.25 million fee for the 23-year-old, plus an additional €1.5 million in undisclosed variables, Barca confirmed.
The Blaugrana retain a buyback option on the defender as part of the deal.
Mina, whose aerial dominance was on full display at the World Cup this summer when he scored three set-piece goals in Russia, had been linked with Manchester United earlier in the window.
