LeBron on Kaepernick ad: 'I stand with Nike, all day, every day'
LeBron James voiced his support for Nike's controversial advertisement featuring former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Speaking at Harlem's Fashion Row after receiving an award for his philanthropy and presence in the design world, James closed his acceptance speech with statements in support of the new campaign carried out by Nike and Kaepernick.
"I stand with Nike, all day, every day," James said according to Jocelyn Novek of The Associated Press.
James added that he stands "for anybody who believes in change."
LeBron has voiced his support for Kaepernick in the past, and his stand with Nike will surprise nobody considering the lifetime deal he has with the company.
The new Los Angeles Lakers superstar also used his time at the podium to talk about the women in his life - his mother Gloria, wife Savannah, and 3-year-old daughter Zhuri - as the event was dedicated to diversity in fashion.
“Because of you, Gloria James, I'm able to be in a position today where I can give back and showcase why I believe African-American women are the most powerful women in the world.” LeBron said of growing up with a single parent.
While holding Zhuri in his arms, he also remarked on how having a daughter has changed his outlook on life.
“People always told me if you ever have a girl, she’ll change you,” James said. “Not only did she change me, she’s made me a better person. A more dedicated person, a stronger person, I guess a more sensitive person.”
