Report: Butler, Thibs had different impressions of summer meeting
Jimmy Butler and Tom Thibodeau came away with different impressions from an August meeting in which the four-time All-Star thought he made it clear he wanted the Minnesota Timberwolves to trade him, sources told The Athletic's Sam Amick.
The pair, who are known to have a strong relationship dating back to their time together with the Chicago Bulls, met for breakfast in Los Angeles in early August. Despite Butler's stance, Thibodeau reportedly came away hoping the situation could be rectified.
Since then, it has become public knowledge that Butler wants out of Minnesota, and reportedly wants to land with either the Los Angeles Clippers or Miami Heat. He has no plans to return to Timberwolves camp before the season starts, according to multiple reports.
Amick's report echoes previous accounts that say Butler and other teams have doubts about the Timberwolves' intentions to make a good-faith deal involving the guard. Thibodeau has said he won't be forced into a bad trade, although Minnesota's leverage appears to be decreasing with the regular season approaching.
