Report: Butler doesn't plan to miss regular season games if not traded
The start of the 2018-19 regular season is fast approaching, and with no end in sight on a potential trade, Jimmy Butler has an important decision to make.
If the Minnesota Timberwolves can't move him, the 29-year-old reportedly has no plans to miss any regular season games, just as long as his wrist is healthy, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Butler underwent a successful elective right hand procedure on July 24 which didn't prevent him from participating in basketball activity.
Team president and head coach Tom Thibodeau is reportedly gung-ho on having Butler back with the team for the start of the campaign. The four-time All-Star has been away from the Timberwolves as the front office seeks out a trade.
The Miami Heat - who Butler has reportedly stated is his preferred trade destination - have been engaged with Minnesota for the better part of the week, per Wojnarowski. However, trade talks between the two sides reportedly broke down after the Timberwolves proposed changes to the layout of the deal.
In fact, it appears Miami may be the only team Minnesota is negotiating with, as they're focused on completing a deal. Conversations are reportedly sparse elsewhere.
Butler averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and two steals on 47.4 percent shooting across 59 appearances last season for the 47-win Timberwolves.
