Report: Riley called Thibs a 'motherf-----' during Butler trade talks
Tom Thibodeau tried to squeeze Pat Riley for every last ounce of value he could in a potential Jimmy Butler trade, which infuriated the Miami Heat president.
The Minnesota Timberwolves had reportedly settled on a trade with the Heat, sending Butler to South Beach in exchange for Josh Richardson, Dion Waiters, and a protected first-round draft pick, sources told ESPN's Jorge Sedano. The medical information for all players had been exchanged, signifying a deal was near completion.
However, Thibodeau reportedly called Riley back and demanded more picks for his All-Star forward. Riley then called the Timberwolves president and head coach a "motherf-----' before hanging up the phone.
Minnesota had hoped to attach center Gorgui Dieng and the remaining three years of his contract onto the deal too, but Miami wasn't biting.
Butler recently participated in his first practice of training camp on Wednesday after sitting out while the front office attempted to honor his trade request. The 29-year-old lashed out at not only Thibodeau, but also teammates Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, as well as general manager Scott Layden.

The Timberwolves reportedly cancelled their Thursday practice following Butler's outburst, but a players-only meeting was held in its place. Butler conveyed his frustrations with management, while also reassuring his teammates that he'll compete as long as he's a member of the roster.
