Cardinals president ends Peterson trade rumors: 'It's not happening'

Arizona Cardinals president Michael Bidwill emphatically denied a report that star cornerback Patrick Peterson could be traded in the near future.

"Not true," Bidwill told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Thursday. "I've seen the speculation. But it's not happening. Not happening."

A report surfaced Sunday claiming Arizona would be willing to trade the seven-time Pro Bowler - presumably for draft picks or young assets - in an attempt to accelerate its rebuild. The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 30.

Peterson has spent his entire career with the Cardinals. The 28-year-old has two seasons remaining on the five-year, $70-million contract he signed ahead of the 2014 campaign.

The Cardinals are 1-5 under first-year head coach Steve Wilks.
