New York Jets running back Bilal Powell was placed on injured reserve Wednesday due to a neck injury that requires surgery, and head coach Todd Bowles says the issue could end his career, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic.

The 29-year-old left the Jets' Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings early after suffering the injury.

New York selected Powell with the 126th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. He's recorded 3,446 career rushing yards, 1,567 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns over 96 games.

Veteran Isaiah Crowell is serving as the Jets' lead back in 2018 after being signed as a free agent in the offseason. Trenton Cannon, a sixth-round pick in April, led the team with 69 receiving yards on Sunday, and he'll likely take on a larger role in Powell's absence.
