Report: Cavs players unhappy with Lue's dismissal
Various Cleveland Cavaliers players are "pissed" about the firing of head coach Tyronn Lue, sources told The Athletic's Joe Vardon.
Lue was dismissed on Sunday morning after Cleveland's 0-6 start. Cavs players such as Kevin Love and J.R. Smith promptly reacted on social media, although they didn't publicly rebuke the move.
Lue and general manager Koby Altman were reportedly having a disagreement about the coach's decision to mostly stick with veteran rotations instead of giving more playing time to the Cavs' youngsters. That played a role in Lue's dismissal, according to Vardon.
Cleveland hasn't led at halftime or in the second half of any game this season.
Longtime lead assistant coach Larry Drew has been named interim head coach, with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that he wants a permanent commitment from the team. Cavs management also fired assistant coach Damon Jones on Sunday, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Former Cavs franchise player LeBron James tweeted "thanks for the memories" to Lue on Sunday, ending with "U know how to find me."
Lue became Cleveland's head coach on Jan. 22, 2016 after the firing of David Blatt. The Cavs went on to win the NBA championship that spring, ending Cleveland's 52-year professional sports title drought.
