Report: NFL never interviewed Hunt, who faces lengthy suspension
Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt is expected to be suspended longer than the NFL's baseline ban of six games for a violation of the personal conduct policy, sources with direct knowledge of the situation told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The NFL is also investigating an incident from June in which Hunt reportedly punched a man at an Ohio resort, Rapoport adds. It is believed enough evidence was found in that matter to add to his punishment.
The running back is currently on waivers following his release from the team on Friday after video surfaced of him kicking and shoving a woman in a Cleveland hotel in February. He's been placed on the commissioner's exempt list for the time being, and a suspension can't begin until he's removed from the list.
The league's investigation into the February events remains open, as previous attempts to contact the victim and her friend by email and phone have failed. The league never requested an interview with Hunt prior to his release, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.
Many witnesses were spoken to during the investigation, though their accounts said Hunt was not involved, which was contradicted by Friday's video evidence. The NFL wasn't allowed to subpoena the security video from the hotel, Schefter reports, but it did have the police report and spoke to the Chiefs after they talked with Hunt about the incident. No action had been taken by the team prior to Friday.
