Report: Lakers hoping to add Ariza in 3-team deal
The Los Angeles Lakers are hoping to bolster their wing rotation as they've engaged in trade talks with the Phoenix Suns for forward Trevor Ariza, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
L.A. and Phoenix are reportedly hoping to find a third team for the Lakers to ship guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Any deal for Ariza cannot be completed until Saturday when players that were signed during the 2018 free agent period become eligible to be traded.
The 3-and-D veteran signed a one-year, $15-million deal with the Suns this summer after playing an integral role in the Houston Rockets' postseason run last season. If acquired, he will supply the Lakers with effective 3-point shooting and elite perimeter defense.
His expiring deal also helps the Lakers remain flexible next summer in their pursuit of an additional superstar to pair with LeBron James.
The Suns are desperate for playmaking and are likely hoping to land a point guard in the deal, as they've been recently forced to start rookies Elie Okobo and De'Anthony Melton after releasing Isaiah Canaan late November.
