A "Spongebob Squarepants" Super Bowl LIII halftime show may not be as far-fetched as it seems.
Following the death of "Spongebob" creator Stephen Hillenburg on Nov. 26, fans launched an online petition asking that the NFL pay tribute to his legacy by performing "Sweet Victory" - which was featured in the show's "Band Geeks" episode - at the Super Bowl. The petition has since been signed by over 900,000 people, and the host stadium has clearly taken notice.
On Wednesday, Mercedes-Benz Stadium tweeted a GIF from the aforementioned episode "Sweet Victory" is featured in.
The tweet was met with plenty of optimism:
Super Bowl LIII will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Feb. 3, 2019.
