Mahomes signs endorsement deal with Hunt's Ketchup
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has inked a deal to endorse his favorite condiment.
Hunt's Ketchup announced Mahomes as its newest brand ambassador Wednesday.
"Who else would you rather have passing the ketchup than Patrick Mahomes?" Hunt's brand director Derek Neeley said in a statement. "When we heard football's brightest young talent was also a huge ketchup fan, we immediately wanted him on our roster."
Mahomes made headlines in November after it was revealed in a feature by ESPN's Seth Wickersham that he likes to put ketchup on his steak. That led to Heinz offering him a lifetime supply of ketchup if he throws 57 touchdowns this season (he currently has 45).
The 23-year-old is planning to launch a breakfast cereal called "Patty Flakes," and has more endorsement deals in the works, according to his agent, Leigh Steinberg.
"We have done some quiet deals, but the goal has been to keep him off billboards and television in Kansas City and to allow his play on the field to develop so that he doesn't look ridiculous - like a Johnny Manziel, with 20 billboards in Cleveland and he's struggling on the field. And to allow him to prove to everyone he's serious about football," Steinberg said during a recent appearance on the "Bloomberg Business of Sports" podcast.
"As soon as the offseason hits, we've got a load of different deals ready for public airing."
