Steinbrenner not ruling out Yankees signing Harper, Machado

The New York Yankees may still be players in the Bryce Harper and Manny Machado sweepstakes after all.

Yankees principal owner Hal Steinbrenner said on Thursday that he'll consider signing one of the top players available if general manager Brian Cashman delivers a proposal, according to Anthony Rieber of Newsday.

"Look, if somebody comes - I haven’t changed - I mean if somebody comes to me with a suggestion or a proposal, I’m going to seriously consider it right up until Opening Day or after," Steinbrenner said. "That’s part of my leave-no-stone-unturned (policy), right? But I’m excited about the roster. I think we’ve definitely got a better club Opening Day than we did Opening Day last year, particularly in pitching, which was my biggest area of concern."

The likelihood of the Yankees adding either superstar remains low, however, despite outfielder Aaron Judge saying he would welcome the addition of a player like Harper. Manager Aaron Boone mostly shot down that possibility when he said the roster is "pretty much set" earlier this week.

Still, until Harper and Machado sign new contracts, the Yankees will remain active on the market. The regular season is quickly approaching, too, with pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training next week.
