Kraft's attorney sounds off about 'illegal' video evidence
Robert Kraft's attorney lashed out on Friday when speaking about video evidence against the New England Patriots owner in a solicitation case.
Kraft is one of 25 men charged in connection to a day spa in Florida allegedly tied to a human trafficking ring. Prosecutors say they collected surveillance footage from inside the spa showing Kraft exchanging money for sexual acts.
"There was no human trafficking and law enforcement knows it," Kraft's lawyer, William Burck, told ESPN's Adam Schefter. "The video and the traffic stop were illegal and law enforcement just doesn't want to admit it. The state attorney needs to step up and do the right thing and investigate how the evidence in this case was obtained."
In February, Kraft pleaded not guilty to soliciting prostitution. He reportedly rejected a plea deal that would've kept him out of jail, but required him to admit a trial would result in being proven guilty.
His legal team filed a protective order last week attempting to prevent the release of investigation evidence, including the video.
The sheriff in the case, William Snyder, expects the surveillance footage to be released eventually.
"Once a case is over, it's not an ongoing investigation," he said. "There has to be a specific reason not to release a public record. And the fact that there is sexual activity is not an exemption."
"I watched and just left the room," he added. "There is nothing to see. It's pretty ugly."
Kraft, a 77-year-old businessman who also owns Major League Soccer's New England Revolution, is scheduled to be arraigned on March 28.
