Study: NBA fans drink more when favorite team plays a rival
Fans may be more likely to have another drink when their favorite team is struggling, but according to a new study, the opponent and importance of the game also affects how many alcoholic beverages fans consume during NBA contests.
The study, conducted by Delphi Health Group, found that 25.3 percent of NBA fans drank more when their favorite team faced a rival, and 38.2 percent drank more when their favorite team played in the playoffs. Boston Celtics fans were the most likely to increase their drinking in both situations.

When it comes to attending games, the study found that Denver Nuggets supporters spent the most of any NBA fanbase on alcohol with an average of $33.47. Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, and Golden State Warriors fans also spent more than the league average on drinks.
