Micki Free shares new detail about Prince's famous basketball game
With the NCAA men's Final Four being held in Minneapolis this year, ESPN's "SportsCenter" gathered Prince's former basketball coach and collaborators to reflect on the hometown legend's love of basketball.
The segment included an interesting new detail about Prince's famous pickup game, which was immortalized on "Chappelle's Show" in 2004. According to guitarist Micki Free, who played in the game, Eddie Murphy gave Prince some extra motivation by blasting his own song "Party All the Time" from a boombox on the court.
"Prince is like, 'I don't have time for that. Let's play basketball,'" Free recalled.
Prince and his squad went on to destroy Murphy's team.
"He was like Steph Curry, baby," Free added of Prince. "He goes to the far right corner, fadeaway jump shot. Nothing but net."
Free also had high praise for Dave Chappelle's sketch, saying, "I laugh about it even now."
