Hank Haney makes ignorant comments about LPGA Tour
Hank Haney, who's best known as the former swing coach of Tiger Woods, was on PGA Tour radio Wednesday morning and provided his opinion on who will win this week's U.S. Women's Open.
However, Haney's lack of knowledge about the LPGA Tour and its players was made apparent through a series of controversial comments.
"I'm going to predict a Korean," Haney said, according to Golf.com's Sean Zak. "That's going to be my prediction. I couldn't name you, like, six players on the LPGA Tour."
Haney then doubled-down on his ignorance about the women's game.
"Maybe I could," he added. "Well, I'd go with Lee. If I didn't have to name a first name, I'd get a bunch of them right."
Social media users started to weigh in on Haney's comments while he was still on the air.
Very disappointed to hear @HankHaney completely disparage women's golf and the @LPGA on his radio show. "I couldn't name 4 players. Wait, yes I could, I'll just go with Lee," Haney said. I'm not sure if that's more racist or sexist. Shame on you Hank.

Michelle Wie, who's sitting out the U.S. Open because of a wrist injury, also addressed Haney's remarks.
As a Korean American female golfer, these comments that @HankHaney made disappoint and anger me on so many different levels. Racism and sexism are no laughing matter Hank....shame on you. I don’t ever do this, but this must be called out. https://t.co/P18JByTosN

Haney then tried to explain himself and offered an apology upon learning that his comments were poorly received.
"I apologize if that offended people. I guess it did," he said as his co-host assured him that he's not a racist. "Well yeah, I know I'm not a racist. But I guess it offended somebody."
Haney has since made a formal apology.

There are currently two players in the top 50 of Women's Golf World Rankings who are of South Korean nationality and have the surname Lee: Jeongeun Lee and Mi Hyang Lee.
