OBJ blown away by Mayfield's arm: 'I have to get adjusted to his speed'
Odell Beckham Jr. may need to add some Stickum to his gloves this year.
After Beckham's first practice on Wednesday with his new quarterback, Baker Mayfield, the Cleveland Browns receiver highlighted the difference in the velocity of the sophomore's throws compared to what he was used to with the New York Giants.
"I have to get adjusted to his speed because he's got an arm. He's throwing that ball hard. Just catching him from the first day, it was like, 'Wow, this is completely different.'"
Beckham criticized the Giants' "safe" offense last season and said he wanted more chances to attack defenses downfield. At the time, he had been held to 331 yards and no touchdowns during the team's 1-3 start.
"I feel like I'm being out-schemed, and then I also don't have a chance to, like, do something where I've got to take a slant and go 60," Beckham said in October. "And not to say that's not fun, but it's like I want some easy touchdowns too.
"I watch everybody across the league. All the top receivers get the ball the way that they, you know, should. And if they don't, they say something about it."
Giants head coach Pat Shurmur was asked Thursday if he thought his former receiver was taking a shot at Eli Manning, but he said Beckham is likely just excited about his new home.
