Stroman: Future with Blue Jays 'kind of out of my control'

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman is becoming increasingly enlightened to the fact that he may not be a staple of the team's long-term plans.

"I'm just starting to really, truly understand the business of baseball and the business of sport," Stroman told reporters, including Laura Armstrong of The Toronto Star, after another loss Tuesday. "It's kind of out of my control."

"(The media has) been throwing my name around in trade talks all the time," he continued. "(It) doesn't seem like I'm going to be signed here to a long-term deal so it's something that you kind of have to come to terms with. I love this team, I love Toronto, I love everything about the country, and I'm going to continue to go out there each and every start and just compete, compete, compete. Do everything I can to limit runs."

When asked whether he expects to be on the roster after MLB's July 31 trade deadline, Stroman told Scott Mitchell of TSN, "(It) seems like everybody's saying I'm not going to be, so I don't know. I'm doing everything in my power to keep all that out of my head."

Stroman dropped to 4-9 on the season after allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three over seven innings of work in Tuesday's loss against the Los Angeles Angels. The effort represented the 28-year-old's 11th quality start of the campaign.

The Gold Glove winner has one year of team control remaining beyond 2019 and will enter his fourth and final year of arbitration this winter. Stroman is in the midst of a career year despite the dismal win-loss record, authoring a 3.23 ERA and 3.83 FIP over 94 2/3 innings.

Stroman has been outspoken about the team's struggles, describing the 26-47 Blue Jays as "not a fun atmosphere." On their current pace, Toronto would finish the campaign with a 58-104 record, which would mark the club's first 100-loss season since 1979.
