Ex-Red Sox manager John Farrell now working as lobster fisherman
Former Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell has traded baseball for a new career in lobster fishing.
Farrell is the skipper of a 46-foot boat called Seaweed and spends his days catching lobster off the coast of Massachusetts, fulfilling what he describes as "a lifelong dream," according to Stan Grossfeld of the Boston Globe. His father was a lobsterman in New Jersey and would bring Farrell on fishing trips when he was a kid.
"Fortunately, I was able to throw a baseball, but in the back of my mind, I forever envisioned returning to the water," Farrell said. "Fortunately, I've been able to realize that."
Farrell hasn't visited Fenway Park since he was fired by the Red Sox in 2017, but he's still rooting for his former team.
"The Red Sox are a big part of my adult life," he said. "I am thankful for the opportunity. It was an incredible experience. For the fortunate few that have been in that seat, we sometimes talk that it is one of two extremes - it's either the best place or the worst place."
