Warriors owner: No one wearing Durant's 35 while he's in charge

The day after Kevin Durant potentially ended the Golden State Warriors' dynasty by decamping for the Brooklyn Nets, there's nothing but love coming from the organization.

Majority owner Joe Lacob announced Monday that no Warriors player will ever don Durant's No. 35 as long as he has a say in it.

"(Durant) provided our fans and franchise with numerous highlights during his stay here - two NBA championships, two NBA Finals MVPs, three trips to the Finals, unparalleled efficiency - and carried himself with class and dignity both on and off the court," Lacob said in a team statement. "As long as I am co-chairman of this team, no player will ever wear number 35 for the Warriors again."

It was reported earlier Monday that Durant and new Nets teammate Kyrie Irving had been planning to team up in free agency since before the start of this past season. That would have made Durant's exit from Golden State a guarantee since the Warriors could never have paid Irving anywhere close to a max contract.

Another member of the Warriors' three-time championship core, Andre Iguodala, was reportedly traded to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.

Durant ends his tenure with Golden State after averaging 25.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 208 regular-season games. The 30-year-old averaged 29.6 points in 48 playoff contests and won two NBA championships, earning Finals MVP honors both times.
