New York Knicks rookie RJ Barrett will not represent Canada for the FIBA World Cup as he recovers from a mild calf strain suffered during summer league, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Barrett will still join the team for training camp and team activities in Toronto, Charania reports.
New York selected Barrett with the No. 3 pick in June's draft after the young star was named a consensus first-team All-American for his one season at Duke.
The 19-year-old averaged 22.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists during his time with the Blue Devils.
Barrett is arguably Canada's brightest future star, playing a key role in the nation's qualification for the World Cup despite being the among its youngest representatives.
