Report: Jets open to trading Le'Veon Bell
The New York Jets are open to trading running back Le'Veon Bell before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, sources told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
The 27-year-old is drawing interest, though New York isn't actively shopping him, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.
Bell is just seven games into the four-year, $52.5-million contract he signed with the Jets in free agency this offseason. His deal includes $13.5 million guaranteed in 2020, a potential stumbling block for interested teams.
The Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Eagles could all have some level of interest in acquiring Bell, suggests Mehta, who adds the price to do so is unclear.
New York inked Bell under ex-general manager Mike Maccagnan, who's since been replaced by former Philadelphia Eagles executive Joe Douglas. Reports surfaced in May that Jets head coach Adam Gase had opposed signing Bell and linebacker C.J. Mosley for as much money as they received.
A three-time Pro Bowler over five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bell has struggled in his new stomping grounds, averaging a paltry 3.2 yards per carry. He's scampered for 349 yards and one touchdown this season, adding 187 yards and a score through the air. The Jets are 1-6 with him in the backfield.
