Report: Chelsea's Hudson-Odoi arrested following rape accusation
Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi was arrested on suspicion of rape early Sunday morning, sources told ESPN's James Olley.
A woman called police to Hudson-Odoi's house and later said she had been raped, Olley reports. The player has apparently since been released on bail and was told to return to a police station in mid-June as part of the investigation.
"Police and London ambulance service were called at 3:53 a.m. (local time) on Sunday, May 17 to a report of an unwell woman. She was taken to hospital," a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said, according to the Guardian's Jacob Steinberg. "A man was arrested at the scene. He was released from custody and bailed. Inquiries continue."
Chelsea have declined to comment on the matter.
Multiple reports initially suggested Hudson-Odoi was contravening coronavirus lockdown rules with the woman, with no word of a potential rape case.
Hudson-Odoi became the first known Premier League player to test positive for COVID-19 in March. Chelsea said he was "feeling fine and back to his usual self" near the end of his two-week isolation period.
