Travis Dermott will suit up for the first time in the 2019-20 campaign on Tuesday night.
The Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman will play against the Washington Capitals, head coach Mike Babcock told reporters on Monday, including NHL.com's Dave McCarthy.
Dermott was expected to miss a minimum of six months after having shoulder surgery in early May.
The 22-year-old collected 17 points across 64 games in 2018-19, adding three points in seven playoff contests in his second campaign with the club.
Toronto selected him 34th overall in 2015.
