LaDainian Tomlinson lit up the NFL and fantasy football in 2006, rushing for a league-high 1,815 yards and 28 touchdowns while setting multiple records.

Despite all the time that's passed since then, the former San Diego Chargers and New York Jets running back still meets people who thank him for his fantasy performances.

"I have people to this day, no lie, every day, come up to me and tell them I helped them win their fantasy league back in the day," Tomlinson told Action Network's Darren Rovell during a promotional event in New York on Thursday.

Tomlinson added that he avoided fantasy football during his playing days, but that's changed.

"I really didn't understand the point system, didn't want to get involved with getting into it," he said. "I wanted to just focus on the field and didn't feel I needed something else in my head. But now that I play, and knowing what I know now, I would have never taken myself out."

Tomlinson retired from the NFL in 2012 after 11 seasons.
