Cory Schneider is on the verge of being demoted.
The New Jersey Devils are placing the veteran goaltender on waivers for the purpose of assignment to their farm team in Binghamton, the NHL club announced Monday.
The 33-year-old Schneider is under contract through the 2021-22 campaign at a cap hit of $6 million, according to CapFriendly.
He's failed to record a win in six games this season and owns a save percentage of .852.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old MacKenzie Blackwood has outplayed Schneider in the Devils' crease, authoring a .904 save percentage across 14 contests. Blackwood posted back-to-back wins on Friday and Saturday in which he stopped a combined 69 of 73 shots.
The Devils recalled goalie Louis Domingue from Binghamton earlier Monday.
