LSU fan starts GoFundMe to buy Clemson new mascot costume
LSU fans think Clemson's tiger mascot could use an upgrade.
Following the start of Monday's College Football Playoff national title game, which saw LSU defeat Clemson 42-25, a GoFundMe page was created to raise money to purchase the school a new mascot costume. The fundraiser has already surpassed its goal of $1,000, raising over $2,400 as of Wednesday morning.
The GoFundMe organizer, Dion Grossnickle, said she plans to send the money to the Clemson University Athletic Department, but has something else in mind if they choose not to accept it.
"So I will be attempting to contact their athletic department this week to see if they would like me to send the contributions to them or if they would like me to donate it to a charity of theirs or my choosing," Grossnickle wrote in an email to Newsweek's Matthew Impelli.
Jeff Kallin, Clemson's associate athletic director of communications and strategic initiatives, offered a suggestion of where the funds could be donated.
"We'd appreciate if the individual were to consider donating the funds to Tigers United, a consortium which includes both Clemson and LSU dedicated to the preservation of tigers in the wild," Kallin said.
