LaVar hopes Knicks draft LaMelo, hire Mark Jackson as head coach
LaVar Ball wants to see his youngest son, LaMelo, suiting up for the New York Knicks next season.
During an appearance on "TMZ Roundtable" with former NBA star Metta World Peace and hip-hop mogul Master P, LaVar said he hopes LaMelo goes No. 1 overall to the Knicks in the 2020 NBA Draft. His dream scenario also includes the Knicks hiring Mark Jackson as head coach and bringing his other two sons, Lonzo and LiAngelo, on board.
"He'd be perfect for New York. He'd be perfect," the Ball patriarch said of Jackson coaching the Knicks. "And you know why I say that, man? 'Cause he from New York. He a point guard. Please pick my son first.
"If he's over there and (the Knicks) get my other two sons, with Mark Jackson being the head coach, he gonna do the same thing he did with (the) Golden State (Warriors) with my boys."
The Knicks are currently tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the third-worst record in the NBA at 12-32. The team dismissed head coach David Fizdale in December, replacing him with Mike Miller on an interim basis.
LaMelo shut down his season in the Australian NBL on Thursday due to a bone bruise he suffered in early December.
