Trailer released for KD-produced Stephon Marbury documentary
A new documentary that's set to release in March delves into the life of two-time NBA All-Star and Chinese basketball legend Stephon Marbury.
In the first trailer for "A Kid From Coney Island," which dropped Wednesday, Marbury recounts how he "went from making $20 million dollars a year to zero."
Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah directed the film, which was produced by Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman.
"I think all of us as consumers and viewers always want to see that heroic story and that redemption story. I don't think people really understood how low it got and what great heights (Stephon) reached," Kleiman told Lindsay Kimble of People. "What he achieved in China - on the opposite side of the world - was incredible and mind-blowing. I can't even imagine another story like this in any sport, ever."
Marbury played 13 years in the NBA - including stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, and Boston Celtics - before joining the Chinese Basketball Association in 2010. He was named head coach of the CBA's Beijing Royal Fighters in 2019.
